Information Regarding Forbearance
Forbearance may be a great option for those who can no longer make their monthly mortgage payments due to a sudden unforeseen financial hardship caused by Covid-19. However, there are some important things to remember when applying for this type of assistance:
- Forbearance is NOT loan forgiveness. Principal and accrued interest will be due at a later time.
- The mortgage payments you skip during forbearance are not automatically added to the end of your loan term and may be due much sooner.
- If you can afford to make your monthly payments, forbearance is likely not the best option for you because it can put you in a more difficult financial position when the payments eventually become due.
- When contacting your loan servicer for assistance, be sure to ask about other options that may be available given your circumstances.
